Dingle Peninsula, County Kerry, Ireland
On the stunningly beautiful Dingle Peninsula stands this cottage, remaining from the Great Famine of 1845-1851. In such a picturesque setting, it is hard to imagine the suffering of the Great Famine which hit this area of West Kerry particularly hard. Though there was more than enough food produced in the country to feed its population, the British rule of the time chose to export these goods abroad rather than feed the Irish people. A staggering two million people died of starvation or were forced to emigrate.
